Robotics Technician Program Overview

I am a Robotics Technician and a technical entrepreneur. I operate a startup-focused robotics and automation services company that works with industrial systems, maintenance diagnostics, and automation technologies. My role includes hands-on technical work, system troubleshooting, and continued skills development in robotics and automation.

I selected George Brown’s Robotics Technician program to strengthen my technical foundation in robotics and industrial automation, gain structured, industry-relevant training, and earn a recognized credential that aligns with real-world manufacturing and automation environments. I learned about the program through online research while searching for reputable, industry-aligned robotics and automation training programs.

The best aspect of the program was the practical, hands-on approach combined with clear technical explanations. The curriculum connected theory directly to real industrial applications, which made the learning immediately useful. I also found the Resource Centre helpful for reference materials and self-guided learning. The structured resources and tutorials made it easy to review concepts and reinforce skills when needed.

I am looking forward to applying the robotics programming concepts, system diagnostics, automation fundamentals, and troubleshooting methodologies directly in industrial environments, maintenance work, and future robotics projects. Since completing the program, I am more confident handling advanced technical tasks, system analysis, and problem-solving in robotics and automation settings. The program strengthened my ability to work independently and take on higher-level technical responsibilities. I plan to leverage this certificate to pursue advanced robotics and automation roles, expand my professional opportunities, and support continued growth in my technical career.

Working in a manufacturing facility where we fabricate roofing products using aluminum and copper, I joined the Robotics Technician program to deepen my understanding of our welding robots. I chose this program to gain the skills needed to troubleshoot more effectively. The RoboLogix simulations were a highlight, allowing me to program different robot types. The student support was always responsive. Today, I am officially in charge of the robots at my company and am actively writing programs to improve our operations.

I chose this program to refresh my knowledge of automation using PLCs. The online course offered by George Brown College provides the flexibility to complete it at your own pace. It combines theory with simulation software, making the concepts easy to understand and apply. The simulator is especially valuable, allowing practical experience without needing to invest in costly PLC training kits.

The program's resource center is also a great asset, enabling students to connect and share experiences. Additionally, the certificates earned upon completion provide industry-recognized validation of the skills gained, supported by George Brown College’s strong reputation.

Building on the knowledge acquired from this program, I’ve now established my own automation company.

Mike Molenhuis works at FIO Automotive, an automotive supplier building sub-assemblies for Toyota and Lexus. As a First Response Technician, Mike is responsible for general repair and maintenance work.

“The Robotics Technician program was recommended by a couple of other maintenance employees and FIO has supported it with tuition reimbursement.

The program provided a great base of information and introduction to Robotics. The simulation software 3D environments were also a practical way to learn the curriculum. I am able to apply what I have learned on a daily basis, and now have even started training others. As I gain more experience, I expect my responsibilities will also change.”

Mikey Cox is a Controls Technical, at Delicato, a family winery where he works with robotics arms. The Robotics Technician program has ‘increased my knowledge to build palletizing programs and will allow me to take on future robotics projects.’

‘I would recommend using all the resources available, I even bought the textbook for future reference. I also would encourage technicians to take this program and challenge themselves with the self paced schooling format. It has been a great experience and know I have the discipline to finish.’ 

Edwin Mendija works at Kualapuu Elementary School ‘as the IT Manager, teaches robotics at Molokai High School, runs the robotics education/competition programs at Kualapuu Elementary School,  and is now in charge of the Molokai Robotics League (a league made up of robotics teams throughout our island).’

Jigneshkumar Patel works in technical support at Jefferson Elora Corporation (JEC), a division of Honda Canada. His responsibilities include maintenance, preventative maintenance and trouble-shooting the robotics lines.

‘This program has allowed me to pursue my interests in mechanics and robotics without impacting my work schedule. And I believe my manager and the HR staff have noticed my initiative to upgrade my skills. I have applied for an internal position as a Robotics Technical and hope my new education will help me get the promotion.’ 

With the assistance of his company’s tuition reimbursement policy Travis T enrolled in the Robotics Technician Certificate program because it was online and allowed him to work at his own pace. In addition to the program flexibility, he especially liked the simulator as "it provided “real-world” experience."

Travis is a Project Engineer designing and installing new equipment and has had the opportunity to apply his new learning on the job. "I am currently in the process of working with several integrators to install robotics systems. Your program has given me the knowledge required to properly communicate the system design requirements."

Mike Varney works in industrial maintenance and has completed the Robotics, Automation and PLC Technician II programs. "With my background in electronics and maintenance these programs are exactly what I need to move into a Controls position."
